My name is Barbara Oliveira Da Silva, and I am a Virginia-based photographer originally from Brazil. Raised by a single mother, I spent my early childhood immersed in a life shaped by curiosity, movement, and a deep connection to the world around me. At nine years old, new opportunities allowed my family to immigrate to the United States where I’ve continued to grow while carrying my roots with me.
One of the greatest gifts of my upbringing is an enduring appreciation for people, places, stories, and moments that resist easy explanation. Being shaped by multiple cultures and environments has deeply influenced the way I see the world and, ultimately, the way I photograph it.
Outside of photography, I am a lifelong hobby enthusiast. I’m an avid runner, baker, and hands-on maker spending time painting, working with pottery, and sewing. I’m constantly seeking to learn, to try new things, and to stay connected to the joy of creating with my hands and body. These practices ground me, slow me down, and sharpen my awareness of detail, rhythm, and presence.
Photography is where my love for people, history, art, and culture converge. I’m endlessly fascinated by the human experience, its tenderness, contradictions, and quiet beauty. Through my lens, moments that feel fleeting or ordinary begin to reveal their meaning.
My work is an ongoing exploration of connection and presence. I aim to capture small, intimate moments that reflect what it means to be human, honoring the beauty found in authenticity. I hope my images offer a sense of warmth, recognition, and calm and that you’ll feel welcomed as you follow along on this journey with me.
